Book of Chad

Caleb Pike. I have a love-hate relationship with this particular race. This is my fourth attempt at racing this race and up to this point, the previous attempts ended poorly. I have so far had 1 DNF, 1 Lap down, and 2 laps down. This time the only goal was to finish in the group.

To acheive this goal I had deceided to do no attacking, and only chase down breaks that I thought were a genuine threat. Along side the regualar crew there was a small group from upisland that I had never raced before. It became pretty apparent to me that the riders from out of town were a serious threat. The majority of attacks came from these riders, which meant that I had to do a lot of covering. It was a really hard race and as it came to the last lap a group of us started to pull away slowly.

As we neared the halfway part of the lap I chose the wheel that I hoped would get me to the end. The rider had been looking strong all day and he pulled really hard along the backside of the course. Into the down hill he was infront and I was sitting on his wheel. He pulled to the side and stoped pedaling and with a long way left I was on the front. I turned my head to the guy and said “well I guess I’ll just go then.” Off I went everything I had left to the line it was way to far to make that work and the I ended in forth with a bike throw. The goal was definetly accomplished though and I look forward to the next one.
