It started to rain as soon as I pulled up to the venue. I don’t like racing in the rain and I especially think that a motorsports speedway, which is covered in oil and other crud is probably the worse place for a bike ride in the rain. I think a lot of people had a similar thought as only 10 people showed up to race B’s. With the small field numbers, I thought that it would be possible to get a break with a couple of guys and lap the field since not many people would be motivated to chase.
On lap 3 the field slowed down to a crawl coming out of the last corner and spread out. I took the opportunity to put in a dig and see who would come with me. I put my head down and started a near-threshold effort hoping to get lure one or two willing participants out. however, by the time I could see the field I was a 1/3 of a lap up and no one had followed. At this moment I realized I had made a huge mistake. So I doubled down and fully committed to the effort.
It took 10 laps and was very painful. There was snot all over my face and jersey but I had made it around.

I don’t think it will ever happen again. However, it was pretty cool to have made it work.
