1st Crit of 2022

The race started fairly slowly as everyone got into their first crit of the year. The usual suspects were all present and there was a slight wind on the back straight. The first 5 minutes were just trading pulls and going around in circles. There were a few small attacks, most notably were one where Vinko got up the way alone and I decided to bridge as I caught up I yelled to him so he could accelerate and knew I was interested. when we rotated he said it was kinda just a bluff and so I backed it off and were caught quickly. Nearing the end there was a pretty big move by John solo however the wind on the back straight made it very hard to stay away and after a few laps, he was reeled in, having played his card I knew he would probably not be able to contest the final sprint. In my mind, it was down to three. Vinko who is a sprinter, Trevor who is strong, and Myself.

I picked a spot in the mid-field on Trevor’s wheel and I defended that spot as much as I was able. Shortly after Vinko was falling back from the front and I opened a gap for him to hop between Trevor and myself. Vinko chose instead to fin my wheel heading into the final few laps. As we went through the bell the speed increased and as we hit the back straight headwind Trevor went for it. I knew he was too early and I started to get excited. I did everything I could to hold back until we came out of the final turn and as we did I let it rip. Vinko was coming around quickly on my inside. As we hit the line we were not sure who got it but what we did know is it was a ton of fun.
